This is not what Zelensky said, in his rhetorical statement - so let’s keep that choice very clear (to fail to do so is to harm awareness, support for what Ukraine is actually saying):
«“NATO countries are not at war. People are all alive in NATO countries. And thank God. That is why we choose NATO. Not nuclear weapons,” Zelenskyy said.
The Ukrainian leader later clarified at a Thursday press conference with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte that “we are not building nuclear weapons. What I meant is that today there is no stronger security guarantee for us besides NATO membership.”»
Excellent analysis of the Victory Plan. Thank you!
There are signs of increasing discomfort among Americans who are engaged with news about U.S. foreign policy about the yawning gap between Biden's unconditional support of Israel and the restricted, too-little-too-late approach to Ukraine aid. Zelensky was smart to invoke (rhetorically) the nuclear alternative, which Putin has used successfully in its war against Ukraine to manipulate the Biden administration into self-deterrence. Zelensky has rightly complained about this often. Surely, Iran is learning the same lesson that U.S. foreign policy under Biden has taught Ukraine: Russia has nukes, Israel has nukes, but Ukraine and Iran do not. From this perspective, failure to take Zelensky's Victory Plan seriously would be a terrible mistake.
Kamala Harris has said clearly that her presidency would not be a continuation of the Biden presidency. I believe she means it. I'm optimistic that she will turn the page on Ukraine policy to meet the challenges of a changed world. If so, Ukraine will be the beneficiary. Slava Ukrainii!
Max Lewis, my father’s father, was a tall, elegant, quiet man. His family was probably Ukrainian. He never spoke of his past. He refused to mention his family name. He spoke perfect English. He ignored Yiddish and enjoyed walking 20 blocks a day in Manhattan after relocating from Brookline. He dropped kosher the day after his wife passed. She was of German birth and she gave her maiden name willingly. They had two children. Russia was not discussed. Russia is a sick nation, hiding its past, fearing its present, and Russia was loathed, yet loved, by author Max Eastman, a dear family friend, a poet, writer and a romantic Russian. The Putin - Trump relationship is ignored or loved by the sick, fascist Republican Party of today. Fascism is infectious, folks. Dangerous. Prejudice, a mix of fear and ignorance, is utterly intoxicating to fascists. Russia, Hungary and today’s GOP thrive on both. Vote Harris-Walz, good people. Vote. This one matters. Color intolerance triggered anew by two glorious terms of Obama, is just deadly; intolerance, fascist prejudice and Trump threaten our constitution.. Vote and help your elderly neighbor to vote. “A republic, if you can keep it,” said Ben Franklin, our greatest American.
I saw the video of Zelensky speaking to Trump.
NATO or nukes?

I think the Kyiv Independent got this wrong.
Let’s be clear: NATO, not nuclear.

Thanks for this update. I'm pleased to read that Harris seems to be onboard with Zelinskiyy's plan.
